This program has been designed for anyone interested in wildlife veterinary medicine and different game capture methods and is added on to existing programs.
If you are currently in the clinical stages of your vet course, then you may be interested in this course. Students can be already involved in Pre-Vet program, about to start vet school or even in a completely different industry!
There is no prior knowledge required, just a passion for animals and an eagerness to learn,
It should be emphasized that this is a Game Capture Program, we have designed the program as an introductory course to the chemical immobilization of African mammals and a basic knowledge of physiology of animals is needed.
Some activities during your stay include:
- Lectures on pharmacology and physiology
- Lectures on different capture methods (net capture, passive capture, mass helicopter capture, etc.)
- Setting up for captures and safety for both animals and humans
- Learn how to use a dart gun
- Immobilization of different African mammal species
- Transportation of animals
- Introduction to working with Reptiles and Birds
Our program has to remain flexible due to weather, the changing needs of the animals in the area, and the requirements of the vets we are working with.
Whilst we aim for every student to participate in each activity we offer, we cannot guarantee that during your stay one specific activity will run.
Please note that this program is just an indication of what we may cover in 5 days.
