Who are we?

East Coast Animal Care is the new name for Wild Coast Community Vet Clinic (WCCVC), the charity supporting animal health in the Eastern Cape, specifically the Chintsa area. We are a registered charity (NPC: 2017/ 292516/08).

What do we do?

South Africa has a large split in terms of socio-economics, and as such, many people cannot afford to help their animals when it comes to their health. ECAC, with the assistance of Safari4u students and staff, regularly visits townships to assist with anti-parasite treatment (dipping and dosing), wound care, community education on the handling and treatment of pets and animals, and follow-up treatments as needed. This includes not just dogs but any animals needing care.

They also offer practical assistance in the field, including monitoring for cases requiring more specific veterinary treatment and/or emergency care, and supporting the development of spay and neuter programmes and vaccination projects. We have staff on call 24/7 in case of any local emergencies.

The long-term goal is to establish a community clinic to be able to fund more animal health care for the community. Education programmes through practical teaching are currently aiming to be expanded, in order to encourage injury and disease prevention rather than treatment.

ECAC will not consciously participate in any activity that involves the mistreatment of animals or the future mistreatment of animals. This includes, but is not limited to, any activity in which the animal is utilised purely for the entertainment of people. ECAC will assist within their means and not extend beyond those.

How can I help?

The biggest help is through supporting us financially. As of August 2025, we are formally undergoing our name change, and until that is finalised, we don’t have a bank account connected with us but stay tuned as this is in the very near future! In the meantime, we have donation tins in the local Chintsa area, especially at our monthly trivia nights, or you can contact us directly.
If you aren’t comfortable with donating monetarily, donations of medications and equipment are always welcome. We are always in need of parasite prevention medications, needles and syringes, but you can contact us for a more comprehensive wish list. Even if you have old medication your pet at home no longer needs, we are happy to assess the suitability of its use within our programme or dispose of those which we cannot use.
